DOES ISLAM NEED A POPE?
Jonah Goldberg seems to think so, and he makes a persuasive argument. Goldberg's work is always well worth the time and no less so in this case.
He reminds us that the Protestant Reformation was not a liberalization of Christianity, but a return to fundamentalism as a reaction to the Catholic Church, which was seen to have become far too liberal and corrupt. The problem with Islam is not that it's too liberal, the problem is that it's overrun by Islamic "Martin Luthers" promoting a return to fundamentalist Islam and that's the problem.
